Feedback please, can't decide by TheNass Feedback please, can't decide by TheNass
Hey guys

This is the commission I'm working on that :iconwendylynn: won with my last contest. Now, I can't decide between the two versions. I like the blue one because it's a bit more mystical and true to the colors, but I also like the red version as it's a nice contrast with the green environment and more of an original take on the scene. Then again, it really strikes attention...

So I would appreciate your input, with clarification! So please don't go shouting "BLUE!" or "RED!" or "CHOCOLATE BROWN!" *mmm... chocolate...*

Anyway, looking forward to your feedback!

Kind regards

Stijn

I like the blue version better because it closer to the original, although the red version some would say is more original.

The blue one, more nostalgic for me... that and I like the cool feel, the Caterpillar is after all a cool kinda adolescent butterfly, and a bit shady, mysterious. The red one, he's too warm and inviting, makes me feel like I can believe anything he says no matter how absurd...
The blue one I would take an air of caution with.

I'm glad to see you remembered me. :D Oh, on that tutorial, the link to the second vid seems to be dead. I tried Downloading it earlier and I couldn't get part 2. :(

Blueee! as you said, more mystical. And while i usually enjoy more contrast and brighter warmer colours, I think the ambience and atmosphere are lost a bit with the red one.

Blue! The red one looks too blah. I'm sure there's a proper term for it. The colors just all seem to be too reddish, and it ends up looking monotonous. The blue one seems to have more contrast and more of a fantasy feeling.

In the red one, the caterpillar is reddish, on a reddish mushroom, in front of a reddish tree. Too much of the same.

I like the blue. I'm just more drawn to it than I am to the red. More so because Alice(?) herself looks better to me in the blue caterpillar picture than in the red. They are both very nice though.

Well the red certainly stands out more as a thumbnail but the blue has a certain charm and is the version of the caterpillar that most are familiar with.
Maybe you can alter the lighting on the blue one to have sunlight peaking through the canopy onto the caterpillar giving it warm highlights. That way it can stand out from the green of the background a little more.

I've decided to go for something in between (blue version with warmer colors here and there)

The Blue - definitely more mysterious and true to the fantasy. The mushroom as well seems more muted and "real". I like the Blue...

The red mainly because the whole tone of it seems brighter, but I really like the blue colour.

Nicely done overall though!

I prefer the blue as it seems to fit the environment you've surrounded him with. He looks more at home in the blue tone.

I'd go with the red one. Adds a bit more contrast and for some reasons I think some smoke twirlies that would connect the two characters in some way would be a nice touch.
Also, I know it's a wip but the girl seems to be a bit unbalanced, like she's about to fall off or she has a very strong wind coming from behind her but doesn't affect the catterpillar.

Because of the warmth of the trees competing with the blue worm, I'd say go for the red worm.

WOW!! Stijn, I...I...I have no words! This is just breathtaking!

I just read through all the comments, and I think ~pixarjunkie, ~ryuji90 and ~chokladmOOse nailed it on the head.

Blue definitely, for all the reasons they gave. Plus, blue's my favorite color.

Pixar's comment really spoke to me - you have to find him in the blue one, and that's what think really pushes me to that side of the fence.

But then of course I would take whatever you create, as I'm sure it will be astounding!!

Much love Stijn!! :blowkiss:  :blowkiss:

take the right ambient, take the left caterpillar, bring some more contrast with blueish cyan in the back of the woods and give the whole thing a decent light setting to make it more interesting. Maybe even some "avatarish" spots on the caterpillar to give the whole think a more fancy look. :O

Tried the combo, looked odd.. Might just have to tweak it more, will see. Spots on the caterpillar will be added (like the ones I already did on his face) in a later stage. Thanks for the great feedback!
